If anyone owns property in or around Gaston and Mecklenburg counties in North Carolina, I'd suggest doing a walk-through or have your PM do it if you're out-of-state after what happened last night!
We had some pretty bad thunderstorms that produced hail the size of baseballs along with some wicked lightning. All and all, the property I manage had 16 skylights that were damaged (hail went right through them) and a tree that was hit by lightning that had to be removed early this morning since it was blocking a major exit.
The weather in NC hasn't been so kind since I've moved here!
It's that time of year in our neck of the woods too. I remembered Friday nite that my HO policy expired at the end of March on my cabin at the lake! I own it free and clear so no reminders, another advanatge of having a lien, LOL. The check was mailed Saturday, so I'm in good graces but thought about that storm that went through. No damage there. Now is the time to check your insurance policies!!!
I knew there was an extra reason for selling our property in NC in 2008. The hurricane watching, freak storms, mosquitoes, fire ants and poison ivy all seemed like good reasons to look elsewhere. May have to shovel snow again, but it is mor normal weather!
Yes, the biggest storm of the year hit Raleigh, and it was the wicked Lightning that crushed the Hurricanes. The RBC Center was hit by the Lightning six times and crushed the city. Lost revenue for the city is in the millions, and Charlotte is indirectly impacted as well.

I got a tree fell on the roof of my rental property and another one fell on my neighbor's car. Fortunately both tenants and neighbors were out of town at the moment.
In case the tenants come back and have to rent a hotel for a couple of nights, does the landlord policy cover hotel fee for tenant ?

Most likely not, but their renter's policy will cover them.
I just got in. It's a mess downtown, like in the South Park area. Apparently Brentwood is bad too. Didn't make it up there. We only had one house that sustained over $5K damage. It is in Holly Springs where it is very clear that a tornado went through. Quite a few trees on houses along the Holly Springs Rd corridor from town north to 10-10 Rd. Tim's State Farm office has a blue tarp on it and the house next door had two cars and a truck smashed. I should have taken a picture....
Over 20 people now confirmed dead in NC. Was absolutely crazy here in Raleigh yesterday...the tornado that effected us in Raleigh started in Lee County, near Sanford, and went for over 60 miles!
