How do you name your LLC to add the most value?

How do you name your LLC to add the most value?

For a wholesaling business I am thinking of the following names:

1. Brennan Residential, LLC

2. Brennan REI, LLC

3. Merrimack Valley Residential, LLC (MVR for short)

4. Merrimack Valley REI, LLC

I am leaning towards Merrimack Valley Residential, LLC

Are there any thoughts as too how your name effects your brand? Does it even matter?

Business names need to be remembered, easily associated with the service/product line.

Easy to say as well, if you're answering the phone, by the end of the day you'll get tired of saying Merrimack Valley Residential I'm sure.

Shorter fits better on business cards, centers on letterhead, fits on stamps to endorse checks and costs less for type setting too.

How about signs, cost per letter, big names, small letter size can't read it as well far away.

How will you brand your business, got a slogan, a motto, a saying that identifies you? Some like that, so does it flow with the name?
It also needs to say what you do.

That's why you'll see someone's name and then Real Estate or Realty (you can't use Realty unless you're a Realtor BTW). Trump Inc. or just Trump! Brennan LLC works too.

I don't care for AAA unless you're a car club or a car repair shop. The phone book use to be important to some, being first on any list has advanatges.

Can the name tie into a logo? Company colors, how's it look in royal blue and light grey, red and white, yellow and black....?

One word is usually better to tie things together, while it could be

BRENNAN PROPERTIES LLC, dba "BRENNAN"

How are contracts going to be printed up, filled in, you'll have a ton of paper work and signatures, you can shorten things with the DBA and LLC.

I get a laugh out of very small companies with implications of being some mega structure, thanks for not going there like Brennan American Enterprises.... :)

I suggest you keep it simple, say what it is, and make it easy to say and write!

From what you have, I'd vote for Brennan REI (or Real Estate or Properties) :)

Bill Gulley said, "That's why you'll see someone's name and then Real Estate or Realty (you can't use Realty unless you're a Realtor BTW"

This might be a state specific thing, in NJ and most places you can use "Realty" in your business name as long as your acting as a principal in your own deals, not trying to do brokerage work for others that would require a license. "Realty" has nothing to do with being a Realtor btw, Realty is a very generic term. I even remember this being brought up 20+ years ago when I went to R/E school to get my Agents license.

I use a registered business name like," abc Realty Services" that does not have my personal name in it. It will cover anything I want to do for owning, buying, selling & managing my properties.

The name of your Wholesaling business isn't important if you're just starting out. The only thing that matters is finding motivated sellers. Someone that needs to sell their house doesn't care about your business name. If you're concerned with SEO then include your city name and the words 'Buy' and 'Houses'. I suggest you stop "playing business" and start getting the phone to ring.

Wow! Great Thread. Sean, please keep us posted on what you end up with. I'm experiencing the same exact thing. There's so many wholesalers in my city, it's hard to come up with something that'll be remembered and that's original. I was time of having the suffix "Property Solutions" for my wholesaling business. I can think of a prefix that I like yet.

Definitely overthinking this. My LLCs are named as follows. You can guess what or who they are named after. DJTH Real Property, LLC Jimmertime, LLC Axel Road Properties, LLC I market in my own name and the only time anyone ever sees the entity names is after they agree to sell me their house or buy my house. No one has ever said, "don't like your company name, deal is off." I have gotten a few chuckles from my lenders. I am sure they are thinking, "here is a qualified lender. I think I will not lend to him because his entity name references a butt rock band from the 80s or a back up NBA player for the Sacramento Kings." Definitely overthinking it. Go buy a house.

Shifting the topic a bit, but along the same lines..what does everyone think about the importance of their website url? Say someone wants to start a real estate company, but has different investment strategies. In this example, Sean might use Brennan REI, Inc. for his company, but if he wants to start a website wholesaling, he might want to use a catchy name, such as "houseforwholesale.com" under his umbrella company name, rather than just brennanrei.com. What do people think about this as a general practice?

It doesn't tell them you buy and rent property, wholesale property, etc. This is my .02 from a newbie on the site. I do have a few years of business under the belt though, and I have always felt that if you can say exactly what you do in a name that helps quite a bit. YMMV!
Have a great day! John Thedford

I would not advise this in NC. The word "wholesale" has specific meaning and for sure would cause confusion to the public. I'm not sure about other states.
