I have read almost every article on BP and feel like I’m starting to get it.Over and over I have read that I should seek a mentor or join a local group to network.I looked into several in the Tacoma and Seattle area.Is it common to have to join and pay a membership fee for these meetings?I am happy to do so, but am weary of signing up for a guru workshop.Has anyone felt this say way?Are there any suggestions for a quality group to join?
I have attended several local Seattle - North REI groups: NAIOP, ULI, CCIM Seattle, SCAOA, RHA, REAPS. What I would suggest is that you attend as a guest, and just pay the 1 time fee to see how you like the group. Sometimes they even have free events as well - get on their calendars.
We have a Snohomish County REI meetup which is free:
REAPS is probably the best org in Puget Sound. Our next meeting is Thursday 7 PM at the Red Lion in Bellevue. Costs $20 for non-members. But beware, yet another guru will be making his appeal for his workshops and boot camps. That's when pull out the iPhone and get some work done!
All kinds of articles have been written on BP, now, to map out it out and sort out things beyond one author's opinion, become active in the forums. If you do that you won't need any guru course, just ask! :)
Thank you everyone, I will have look into these.I’m anxious to go to an event like this and actually meet real people.I have been reading so much on this website lately, that I need to reconnect with the real world.
Some clubs charge a fee to get in some don't. In my area there are several "meetup" groups and they are all free. All groups have value and you can make valuable contacts at any of them. But some are better than others so just hit as many as you can until you find something you like. Good Luck - Ned
Welcome @Olivia Story. Since you have a RE license a great way to see how the pros operate is to go to work for one and find them properties, make offers, etc. A strong investor client can earn you good money and teach you things in real life and time, which is better than anything else you can do to start IMO. Good luck.
Always see what you can find out about these things before you go. It amazes me to read that people have spent a lot of money on these events when a simple internet search would have thrown out a lot of red flags.
