Should I go door to door asking info about area and home prices in the area in which I want to buy or get connected to a real estate agent to get such information

Realtor is better. Most people (myself included) would be annoyed with a jogger knocking on my door to ask questions. A Realtor will expect all your questions and actually know the answers....

@Rekha Kesharwani do both. It's one thing for an agent to tell you what they think about the area / market. It's even better if you can verify it with your own eyes.

Door to door will get you familiar with the neighborhood in a different way, you will get the insider scoop on what the consumer is ultimately wanting to know. Home prices and such are better to discuss with Realtors. Prospect and see if you can drum up some of market deals talking to neighbors
