Los Angeles Rental Property Investing

Hi everyone,

I am brand new to real estate investing. I currently live in NYC. I would like to be bi-coastal and live with my brother in LA. He currently lives there now. We talked about investing in a multi-family or duplex home and renting it out to people. We would like to live in one of the units and hopefully live rent-free. Does anyone have any advice for us and what is the best area in LA to invest?
