Hi all, I wanted to start a topic on how to successfully network in any given area. How to find the right people to work with and what the best ways to connect with them or better understand the best way to share information. How to message people you aren't friends with yet or how to simply share information and insights. If you have been more active in social media and have any input or advice that would be greatly appreciated. I know lots of people would love knowing how to better navigate the social media world. Thanks.
Networking skills and strategies are complex. Vast libraries of books have been written about it. How to Win Friends and Influence People is a classic. While it is a bit dated, it introduces important concepts, including that we must focus on the others' interests, and it is far more important to be interested than interesting.
If you're looking to meet a particular type of person for your business, it's best to know who you're looking to meet and what their needs likely are. Then get out there and do it. There is no substitute for learning by doing.
Although I'm just beginning my REI journey and now starting to network within this realm, throughout networking for my day job I have found that being sincere, direct and respectful of others time seems to produce the most significant networking interactions. Of course, as @Taylor L. mentions there are so many factors involved and also provides great suggestions, these are good places to start. :)
