Does anyone care to hazard a guess about what the date is the BiggerPockets hits 100,000 site members? The site is closing in on 65,000 right now.
I am betting we can get there by the end of the year if everyone makes a concerted effort to invite just ONE of your best real estate buddies to join the site and makes them pledge to do the same. Some of our best posters are brand new and add a lot of great perspective and value to the site.

35,000 new members in 11 months would be quite the challenge, particularly since it took several years before we reached 65,000.
That said, if we ALL invite others, spread the word in all means possible, we could do it as a team! The other important factor is to encourage new members to interact and stay, rather than the many previous one hit wonders.

Done! Posted on FB. Now the 100k day will be January 17,2012.
Just as one poster said, once the ball starts rolling for the investment business, everyone will want to jump on the bandwagon that is BIGGERPOCKETS!!!

Guys -
I love the enthusiasm! Thanks!
That said, with these kinds of things, often times you will need to provide more information to help people come to a decision to join a site -- telling them why they should sign up would add an incentive.
e.g. if you've done deals with other members here, say that. Or, if you've found a lender or money, share that. You get the idea . . . how has BP helped you -- use that to let them know that you and the others here are invested in their success, and they will start to come!
Another great idea -- let people on your buyer's lists know about the site. Sending them your link and explaining how being a part of BP can help their business will help you gain your referrals and of course, will bring in an influx of new blood.
Once you bring new people on board (or even with your normal contacts on the site), I encourage you to check in on your colleagues regularly and encourage them to stay active and to have a complete profile.

Well after this thread was started Will and I got in a mini invite contest which I am sad to say he won by one person. How about a new round where everyone competes?

I shared the link on linked in as well. I may want to do it again though because I agree with Josh that more people might be interested if they could see a good reason why to join.

I have to settle for more passive ways of looking for new members at this time. I certainly put the word out though whenever I get a chance and like the idea of promoting BP on our other social networking sites.

I am participating and will strive to bring in at least one more than you again Bryan! Friendly competition can only benefit BP Nation in this case.

I see that we have grown to 69,976 members. So we have added about 5,000 members since February.
I will continue to do part in getting the word out. Perhaps we can come up with additional ideas on how to better get the word out and encourage people to sign up.

Growth has been fairly steady, though we've been far more aggressive in eliminating the spammy accounts that come along with a site like ours. We're deleting between 20 and 30 new accounts every day now, which is certainly pairing down our gains.
What I've learned is that it is very easy to grow a social network if you allow every spammer to participate. I'd be very interested in seeing what percentage of accounts on places like Twitter, Facebook, etc. are nothing but spam accounts.
