Can a non US citizen own real estate in the US ?

Dear BP members,

I was wondering, how a foreigner can own a piece of real estate and/or obtain financing in the US? (i'm trying to help out my friend)

    certainly yes to both.. owning is super easy.. financing can be trickier.. but there are quasi private money lenders that specialize in foreigner loans.. but rates are much higher that US citizens get.
