The city of Somerville Massachusetts has submitted their proposed zoning and it will no longer allow you to add a third unit as a right in the RB district despite overwhelming community support. If you live or invest in Somerville please do the following:
1.Sign the petition below. 2. Write the city council (message me and I can give you their email address) BP wont let me post it here. 3. Go to the meeting and voice your opinion Land Use Committee Committee of the Whole 9/19/2019 6:00 PM City Council Chamber, City Hall-93 Highland Avenue

@Justin Rank@Adam Sankowski Thank indeed Justin. This hurts in so many levels and happy to sign. More units = more affordable housing + more density = less sprawl + less auto transit = less pollution.
I'm in East Camb. We should set up a time to get a coffee or a beer and talk shop.

Wow thanks for the heads up Justin. I'm going to try and be there. What is the point of limiting that. I don't even want to use it as an investment I'm happy just as an owner occupied. Or even restrict it to affordable housing limits I don't care. So silly to limit growth in these residential neighborhoods but developers snapped their fingers and got a new Orange line stop!

Hey @Justin Rank I just read through the August zoning changes and it seems like you can still build an accessory carriage house or am I missing this. Its all rather confusing but I'm planning on attending the meeting and just emailed my alderman too to get clarification and to voice my opinion!

Hey Man, I think the excluded the carriage house but I’m not 100 percent sure. You could add a third unit but it would have to be deed restricted and the rent would be capped. I assume since it would also be a legal third unit you would have to sprinkle the house per the building code.

It’s tonight...I can’t make it I’m out of state for a convention. We were able to get a petition together with 85 signatures that just got emailed to the city council. If you get a chance, write them directly.

Adam and I had talked awhile back about getting together some folks to talk about our particular submarket Cambridge/Somerville. Would August/September work for a small group get together at Aeronaut?
