How to fix water flowing from neighbors backyard into my basement

Question

During the heavy rain, water flows from our neighbors' backyard into my basement sliding door.

What else can I do to prevent it?

If you put a curtain drain in across the hill, to catch water as it comes down the hill, is there somewhere downhill to drain it to?

Adding a drain is pretty easy, but need somewhere to drain out, hopefully without draining into someone else’s house.

Regrading is probably going to be your best bet for the most reliable long-term solution like @Aaron K. said, but if you can get a professional out there to look at potentially installing some sort of drain (like @Steve Morris said), that may save you some money. I'd recommend a professional taking a look for sure though, because you do not want to mess with water damage, which could cost you more in the long run if not properly taken care of now.

If it is just keeping water from going into the door, you can also look at a floor drain. Make sure it is diverted to something away from the house and with proper drainage (like the street or a french drain downhill.) That still doesn't give you protection on the foundation surrounding the door, but if accessible, you may be able to do a french drain around the perimeter as long as it's not a gusher.

Diverters never work very well, but this would be cheaper than a regrade, I'd think.

In any case, address it now instead of later. Moisture invasion gets more expensive the longer you wait to remedy it.

Regrade that section of your yard to properly drain towards the front of the house and the street.
