WHAT IS THE BEST HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE POLICY FOR HOUSE HACKING?

Hey everyone,

I just got through due diligence on my first house hack and am anticipating to close on it in the next few weeks. I plan to live in the property for one year and then move into the next one. Is there a specific Homeowners insurance policy that works best with this strategy?

Once you move out - make sure you switch to a landlord policy.

I thoroughly explained that I have Boarders because they understand that term. When I would call them Tenants, the type of insurance would change to Landlord and signal to my VA loan lender inaccurate information.

Insurance in California and Florida is a nightmare right now. Know your broker well, enough to know their children's names. Independent broker who can write various types- they are licensed state by state so a small guy in one state might not be able to help you in another.

What did you end up getting? I am in the same boat right now. Purchasing a house hack duplex in Philly.
