Social Media influencers are everywhere nowadays, promoting everything from paper towels to the latest shows. Is RE investment different?

I wonder if anyone used/ran across them to promote RE investment deals, and how your experience was.

Tarek El Moussa started a syndication at one point.  The Lattes and Leases woman has been on the BP podcast and raises capital for her deals through her social media network. Brandon Turner built most of his trust and brand by being the face of BiggerPockets for years before transitioning that following into his own syndications.  Grant Cardone is another big one.  Pace Morby, Cody Serber, Ken McElroy

One could say that Robert Kiyosaki is the original real estate influencer.

So, short answer: yes, there are many that have done it and many more that try to.

But, unlike selling paper towels, sunglasses, or t-shirts, most real estate is an investment, and therefore fairly heavily regulated by the SEC.  Doing this, while possible would look a lot more like Kim Kardashian and the crypto investment she was found in violation of SEC rules and received a $1.3mm fine.  So, while it is possible to do, and some do it very successfully, it is not "easy".  And like any social media influencer marketing, typically the biggest accounts can be very divisive.  Attach your investment to an influencer, then influencer does something controversial and your brand has been tarnished, potentially forever.
