LLP or LP or LPGP ?! Canadian investing in the US

Hello! 

I am wondering if anyone has some insight. As a Canadian investing in the US... which is the best type of entity to go with? It would be myself and my wife forming the partnership. 

I have heard that LLC is not recognized in Canada for tax purposes. So which type of entity would protect us as well as help us to avoid double taxation?
