We just got our last property tax appeal results today. We got a total of $503,894 knocked off of the assessed value of all our properties. This equates to over $11,000 extra in taxes that we would have had to pay in December this year.
Last week I saw that 80% of the people in the two counties that we invest in don’t protest their taxes! That’s insane.
Hey Mike thanks for sharing. I remember I protested my taxes one year and ended up losing my protest. Not sure what I did wrong but I’m pretty sure it because I wasn’t prepared for it. Did you use a lawyer/agent to assist in your protest? If not, what evidence did you provide to the review committee ?

I used to do it myself and I would get my realtor to give me CMA‘s, I would present that to the committee. I started using a company that does all of that for me now and they get 25% of whatever they save me. Ownwell is the name of the company here in central Texas.

Protest your taxes people. Every year!
That’s an awesome win — nicely done! Most people don’t realize how big of a difference a successful appeal can make, especially across multiple properties. You’re absolutely right, skipping the protest is like leaving money on the table every year. Out of curiosity, do you handle the appeals yourself or work with a firm?
