How would you make an offer when someone dies?

I heard of a person that died and now no one owns the house except family. How would anyone address the issue of making an offer to purchase the property. How long to wait, how to interduce yourself, please let me know everyones thoughts.

You would need to contact the heirs on title. The estate will also need to be probated before you can close which is typically a 60+ day process.

Odds are good the house was sold in the 15 years since this question was posted;)
