Has anyone ever bought a lot and did an owner build?

I'm looking for a house in a specific area but there is only land for sale. I know nothing about the owner builds or new construction.

Just finishing up a spec. If you have no experience ask around for recommendations for custom home builders in your area. Some will even do in house design for you.
