My rental properties are not in Columbus but they are in Youngstown in Mahoning County.
Every year, I go through all of my properties to see if I can lower my assessed value and bring my taxes down. Last year, from 4 properties, I got $1,444 back from my taxes! AND the process only took about 5 min to do.
Basically, you appeal the assessed value of your property and the appeals board reviews it. Most counties make it pretty easy with just one form. I filled out a form for each property and mailed it in. 6 months later I got checks back from the County with my over paid taxes!

I would also be interested to hear what others have to say. I am working with my team to appeal over property tax assessed value in the Dayton, Ohio market. Not sure about its success but worth a shot.

@Andy Howell If you PM me with your contact information, I can hook you up with 2 individuals who are very familiar with the process and have each made many appeals over many years with good success. FWIW, one of them mentioned to me on Monday that he would be at the landlord meeting at Tommy's Pizza tomorrow night (Thursday the 21st). (See the Patrick Mullin thread you posted on earlier today for more info about the meeting.)

I am closing on an 8 unit in Columbus hopefully in the next couple of weeks. One of the first things that I will be doing is challenging the assessment. Ed, if it is not too much trouble, I would appreciate your contacts as well. I will pm you with my information.

Hi all
I too have lowered my property taxes. I used Kirk Douglas to submit them for me but I plan to give it a go myself on some other places. My experience was pretty similar to the others that about six months after submission I got a check in the mail for the overage. Definitely worth the effort!
