Hello, I own several STRs in Hilton Head and am struggling with the cleaning not being done to the standard of a 5 star review. With very limited options for cleaners, I was thinking of offering the current cleaners a bonus after receiving great reviews. Has anyone had luck with this strategy? If so, I love to hear your approach! I pay between $135 and $165 per cleaning of my condos and not sure what would be motivating to the cleaner and also not leave me broke by paying even more for cleaning out of pocket. Any insight would be appreciated.
I've found that they are either a good cleaner or they are not. Offering extra money for 5 star review may help a bit in the short term, but water eventually finds it's level.
It could be interesting to start an incentive program and give a cut of each stay for every 5-star in cleaning. I had not thought of that as a strategy, but this post prompted me to drop in.
On one hand, you are incentivizing what you're paying for in the first place. On the other, you keep the talent happy and turn down other clients until you get a 4-star, they don't get and then they get salty.
Mixed feelings but the bad precedent tilts me towards no.
I created a good relationship with my vendors and think I take care of them based on how they treat me and my properties.
I give a:
Birthday gift End of Year Holiday gift Mothers day When cleaning ran over their "expected time" due to messy guests

Why are there "very limited options for cleaners"? Have you tried nextdoor.com? If that is available in your area, you should find several recommendations for local cleaners.
Also, the incentive for cleaners should be their paycheck, and a good review on cleanliness should be the minimum acceptable, in my opinion. If a guest went out of their way to comment on cleanliness, THEN I might consider some sort of (unexpected) bonus, but I would not reward DOING THE JOB AT HAND with more money.
