Just starting with a vintage camper

Just starting with a vintage camper

Member since 2025 · 1 post · 1 vote

Brand new here! Acquired a vintage 1957 240 sq ft Landcraft Chicago camper included in the purchase of my second house. It is beautiful and has a very short AirBnB history that showed some success. Any advice? Do I pursue keeping as short term rental even though I'm more focused on long term rentals right now? Is there a community here that specializes in these and would be interested in buying or trading in?

I think it's a great STR move. But not in Phoenix, you will lose 4-5 months every year. No way to cool those down with the lack of insulation.....

If the camper is already on the property and already approved to be run as a STR, then it makes sense to keep running it as a STR through the "good" season to offset your expenses. People love those little vintage campers. I have some questions, shot you a private message.

Welcome to BP, and specifically to the STR forum. I am excited to see how this does for you as a short term rental. AirBnb would be the place to keep it listed. With a cleaner, it can be fairly hands off, and you might find the cash flow is surprisingly high as compared with LTRs. Does it have a nice finish?

Campers are a niche market here but if you research regulation and have a good cleaner for it, it could be pretty passive cashflow!

This idea has always been intriguing to me. Vacationers are seeking all sorts of different experiences. If it has an Airbnb history, that means it is an experience someone is seeking. I'd stick with it!

That’s an awesome find, Eric! If it had some Airbnb success, it could be worth keeping as a short-term rental for extra cash flow, especially if demand is there. But if long-term rentals are your focus, selling or trading it to someone in the niche could free up time and capital. Maybe test it out for a bit and see if the returns are worth the effort! #LETSGO
