I read a book by John Grisham called "The Firm". It involved the Grand Caymans. Based upon that, I would not invest in a STR in the Grand Cayman Islands.
But I would invest in STRs in a depressed municipality that has one large employer that utilizes travelling contractors. That's what I do.
Don't limit your STRs to just vacationing people. The people I rent to usually work 6x10 to 7x12 hours a week and have a $100/day per diem.

@John Rahkonen I've been to grand cayman. It was wonderful. We stayed in a hotel like everyone else. And our STRs in a lucrative STR VR market paid for the trip. I looked at my phone 3 times while we were there for a week and the money kept rolling in. So I ordered more beers in grand cayman.
