I've got 4 guys that are trying to save money, they've rented from me before. They rented a 2 bedroom apartment. One guy in each bedroom and the other 2 guys are sleeping on their own inflatable beds in the living room. Problem is that it only has a 40 gallon hot water tank and they run out of hot water when they all take a shower after each other.
I grew up with 5 siblings , 3 girls . I never knew what a hot shower was till I moved out . I wouldnt do anything . Soon enough they will figure out to shower at different times all by themselves .
I doubt you want to invest in this, but my personal residence has a Takagi tankless water heater. Never runs out of hot water. Just keeps making more, instantly. In fact, I don't have a furnace - the tankless heats hot water loops below the slab.
It sounds like you might be the one trying to save money, I'd upgrade to an on demand water heater. If you are paying for water, it will save you money over the long haul. It takes up less room and you can feel good about improving your property, gain a deduction, at making 4 dudes that are probably pretty tight on cash happy. Hopefully when they decide between paying the rent on time or taking a the proverbial **** on your living room rug they will pay the rent and respect your property.

They are all 4 paying rent? If so are yo paying the utilities or they are? If you are paying, the tankless heater may pay for its self over the long term and you don't have to worry about the leaks of the regular tank hot water heater causing damage.
