San Bernardino County places a moratorium on VHR permits???

Hi BP,

I'm thinking about purchasing an STR in either Yucca Valley or 29 Palms. After speaking with a few local agents, they shared with me that the County may be issuing a moratorium on VHR permits this August.

Has anyone heard of this?

City of 29 palms is considering limiting permits for vacation rentals later this month.  The locals are really frustrated with the AirBnB glut, because it has driven housing costs so high, has eaten up most of the long term rentals available, and they feel they are losing their neighborhoods.

Some neighborhoods are organizing to fight against short term rentals, complaining about noise and degradation of the quality of life in their neighborhoods.  Others are saying it's been a good way to improve the many empty properties in disrepair, and are hopeful that it is bringing tourist dollars to town and is good for business.  If you do decide to do STRs in 29 Palms, please encourage your guests to respect the neighborhood, be quiet, keep garbage under control, and limit light pollution to keep those precious dark, star-filled skies.  People often don't realize how easily sound carries in the desert, and one inconsiderate person can destroy the peace and quiet for everyone within several miles.  Yes, some days the marines are the ones making all the noise with earth-shaking booms, but everyone knows and expects that may happen, being the home of the largest Military base in the country.  Also, be sure you are aware of the fire regulations and any temporary bans if you have a fire pit.  If you are thinking of flying under the radar and not getting a permit, be aware that there are a lot of angry residents just looking to report you.

No moratorium yet in San Bernardino County. The cities of YV and 29 palms I can't speak to. SBC did increase fines by multitudes and allocated millions towards the enforcement of unpermitted rentals(and illegal weed grows). http://sanbernardino.granicus....
