Institutional to Independent: Retail CRE Background, Building My Own Portfolio

Hey BP community! First-time poster here.

I spent the last several years as a Director at a large institutional retail real estate firm, where I worked on acquisitions and development, evaluating deals, partnership structuring, and navigating the ups and downs of the retail sector. It was a great run, but I've decided to take the leap and go out on my own.

Now I'm building my own portfolio and platform focused on strip centers. I'm coming at this with institutional experience but the hunger of someone just getting started — which honestly feels like the best of both worlds.

Looking forward to connecting with investors, operators, and anyone who's made a similar transition from the corporate side to entrepreneurship. Would love to swap notes.

Based in Atlanta — always happy to grab coffee or a call. Let's connect!

@Colin Hampton Congrats on making the leap into entrepreneurship. Having institutional experience combined with an entrepreneurial mindset is a powerful combination. Atlanta is a great market for networking and commercial opportunities, especially in retail and mixed-use development. I am a real estate broker and mortgage broker here in Atlanta, so feel free to reach out if I can ever be of assistance. Wishing you much success as you build your platform and portfolio.
