From Controller to Investor: Building a Legacy for My Granddaughter

Kacey Betts

Hello everyone,

My name is Kacey, and I'm from Colorado Springs, Colorado. I'm excited to be part of the BiggerPockets community and wanted to introduce myself.

I'm new to real estate investing, but not new to the industry. I currently serve as the Controller for a construction company, where I oversee financial operations, estimating, budgeting, cash flow, and business management. That experience has given me a solid understanding of what makes projects financially successful and how to evaluate opportunities from both a construction and financial perspective.

Before that, I was a property manager from 2001–2008, and I continue to stay actively involved with the Community Associations Institute (CAI), giving me a strong foundation in property management, HOAs, and the operational side of real estate.

One of my greatest strengths is my network. I'm actively involved with the El Paso County Contractors Association and the Housing & Building Association (HBA), and I've built relationships with contractors and industry professionals throughout Colorado. I also work closely with a trusted general contractor licensed in the Arvada, Boulder, and Pikes Peak regions, along with a contractor who can tackle just about any type of project.

As I begin building my own investment portfolio, I'm looking to connect with investors who value collaboration. I'm eager to learn from those with more experience, but I also want to contribute wherever I can. If you need boots on the ground in Colorado, help evaluating repairs or construction costs, introductions to reliable contractors, someone to walk a property, or simply another person to brainstorm an opportunity with, I'd love to be a resource.

My goal is to build genuine, long-term relationships where everyone benefits. I believe that if I can help enough people succeed, the knowledge, experience, and opportunities will naturally follow.

My biggest motivation is my family. I recently adopted my granddaughter, and she's the reason I'm pursuing real estate investing with everything I've got. I want to build lasting wealth that gives her opportunities I never had and helps break a cycle by creating something that can be passed down for generations.

If you're investing in Colorado—or even from out of state and need someone local—I would love to connect. Whether it's sharing ideas, helping with projects, making introductions, or simply learning from experienced investors, I'm grateful to be here and look forward to building relationships with all of you.

Thanks for taking the time to read my introduction. I hope to connect with many of you soon!
