Hello all,

I am new to Bigger Pockets and new to real estate investing. I am in my late twenties and I work as a mechanical engineer. I am in the education and planning phase and cannot wait to secure my first buy and hold rental property. The markets in which I have lived and am familiar with do not make the best rental markets, therefore, my plan is to invest out of state through a turnkey real estate investment company. My focus will be on mid-western cities such as Indianapolis or St. Louis. I plan to start by acquiring single family homes and duplexes.

My am pursuing buy and hold investing is to create passive income for my young and growing family and ultimately create legacy wealth for generations to come.

I look forward to becoming a part of the BP community!

Welcome Jeff! I too just joined BP and I'm also located in the good 'ol Tri-Cities. Finishing up my finance degree at WSU this December and possibly looking to work in the debt and equity side of things. Best of luck to you!

Welcome to BP! There is a massive amount of information on the site, I would recommend checking out the podcasts. There's a lot of information on a lot of strategies and it is a good way to fill the time while commuting.

@Jeff Jones Hi and welcome to BP! Like you plan to do, I started my REI with out of state turnkey investments. Be sure you thoroughly vet any company you are considering investing with, and make sure that they have really good or excellent property management in place (preferably in house or closely affiliated with) as PM is probably the single most important piece for your ongoing investment success. I also advise avoiding low cost properties (under $50k or so) that are best left to the locals to invest in, as these are likely to cause you many more headaches. Indy is a great market to invest in.

    Hello Jeff,

Welcome to BP! This is a great tool to learn more about investing! When investing out of state, turnkey is a great way to go. It is a way to make sure your investments are properly managed without having to go visit it.

Please send me a message if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help.

Thank you for the warm welcome and sound advice! I have been listening to the BiggerPockets podcast along with a new podcast "Investing In Real Estate With Clayton Morris." Additionally I have been reading two of Brandon Turner's books regarding real estate investing. I will absolutely be in touch with you all. It seems the more I learn, the more questions I have!
