Hi my name is Nick and I am newer to the bigger pockets community. I currently am a senior at Central Michigan University and I will be graduating in December of 2016. My major was Entrepreneurship and my dad has been a property manager all of my life. My end goal is to have an investment, development and a property management company under one holding company (marinas, all inclusive resorts, concert halls, apartment complexes, etc.... Comercial real estate and first starting off in multifamilies). At first, I want to start with my first deal and I am looking for investors in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. I came across this website by a friend and I am finding it very helpful. Does anyone know of any investors in that area, ways to find investors or do you have any pieces of advice for a new 21 year old starting out? Also, would you recommend starting out at a part time real estate job while working on my portfolio, if so, do you have any recommendations on companies or job positions that would be good to start out in?

Also, is it better for me to be looking for B or C class properties to start and does anyone have suggestions on help finding good deals when starting off?

Welcome to BP and getting started in real estate. I would love to sit down some time and discuss the market and opportunities.
I always recommend new investors start with something stable maybe an A or B neighborhood. Something that will not create drama or surprises. If you can stomach unexpected expenses or higher turn over/ vacancies you certainly can make good money by investing in lower end properties, but it also turns newbies off quickly when the expenses are typically more than estimated.

Fire Up Chips! New to REI but meeting a lot of people in the industry right now. If you want to know about some interesting investors in the Detroit/Metro Detroit area then shoot me a message.
There are a lot of family funds in West Michigan and in Birmingham, MI areas where you can find some potential work.
Bedrock and Basco are two management companies doing a lot in Detroit. Could give you a feel for the area while you are buying.

@Nick Grodzicki There is a REI meet up at Buffalo Wild Wings on Monday night. The location is 44th St Grandville at 6pm. There are usually 50 to 60 investors, investors, and wholesalers in attendance. This might be a good start in West Michigan.
