'BCS Championship' game coming up - both teams are undefeated! Who do you like in the big game. Colt McCoy and the Texas Long Horns or Heisman Trophy winner, Mark Ingram, and the Alabama Crimson Tide? Vegas has Alabama as a 4 pt favorite. I'm predicting a Texas victory .... 24-17! :cool:
I fully expect Texas to pass Michigan in both categories in the next 10 years. Hopefully the Big XII can stay together and recruit some new teams so that we don't have to travel 1000+ miles for every stinking game going forward.

Bryan- I sucked you in! I'm glad you stated that Texas has "most storied program" in college football. They are my favorite team,,,in Texas. I don't want any excuses.
However, my very favorite team is BYU. Here is something you failed to point out.
9-12-87 BYU 22 UT 17
9-8-88 BYU 47 UT 7
Only 2 times played. So you don't feel bad. Here is the record against other "storied team" Oklahoma.
12-31-96 BYU 31 Okla 6
9-05-09 BYU 14 OKLA 13.
Again 2-0 all time. You can prove almost anything with stats. I'm aware of that.
There is a "possibility" of a HUGE agreement before 9-1 involving BYU and UT. If it happens, remember, you heard it first here. It won't be just football..... Rich

BYU certainly has good teams too. Those two victories over Texas were when our team sucked royally under David Mcwilliams. We barely sweaked out a winning record during his tenure.
In '88 we lost to BAYLOR (!!!) and in '87 we lost to some other bad teams. That doesn't discount BYU kicking our tail, but they would get pwned if they played Texas now.
I would love to see BYU, Arkansas, TCU, etc. join. Nebraska fits better in the Big X plus 2 anyway and I for one didn't mind losing Colorado.

Bryan- Don't discount BYU. This will be a rebuilding year(everyone has them- like TX in 87-88). We play WASh in opener, then air force there, then Fl St here in FL. Tough season ahead. We did sign Rivals #1 qb and he may start. Also got a TX recruitat wide receiver to DE-Comit and come to BYU to be with QB. Ross Apo is de-comit and Jake Heaps is the qb. The big news is 50/50. Rich

Bryan, you are right, and there is no doubt that Texas is highly regarded for their football, even their high school football is the best and it feeds a lot of talent all over the country. It is like Kentucky and basketball.
My comment was more focused on recent years as the SEC, whether it be Florida or Alabama has been cream of the crop. For the past few years I would consider Florida probably the best, but histroically Texas has undoubtedly won more. And this year the SEC looks to be pretty weak.

Bryan- we'll get a more current total of wins and losses between BYU and UT very soon. BYU currently 2-0 against TX. Should TX be good next year, 2011? How about 2013 and 2014? New deal signed yesterday to add home and home series in 13-14. Thanks to Texas for the home and home. Most of the "storied " programs want no part of playing in Provo- basketball or football.
This isn't the HUGE agreement I was referring to. That may still happen and depends on whether BYU declares independence before Sept 1. Rich

Yeap...I saw that. I am looking forward to the series. Texas should have no problem playing on the road anywhere now with their talent level. 9 straight 10-win seasons is 2nd all time to Florida State's 14.
Texas also recently did a 4-yr deal with Notre Dame. The quality of our non-conference games should be on par with Ohio State and USC going forward. I guess we got sick of "mighty" SEC teams like Arkansas backing out of series.
BYU is going to be a trap game for Texas. It is kind of like the series with TCU. If they win everyone expected them to. If they lose then it will really hurt their season. I am glad to see that we are playing better teams regardless of what it means for the season. It is good for college football!
Texas will likely have the #1 recruiting class next year. We have a sickeningly good class already signed and booked a 5-star running back this week. Gilbert will be a senior in 2012's season so you will likely get a freshman quarterback in your series with us in 2013. 2011's class will be veterans by the time they play BYU...they'll be good!
Hopefully Texas can keep Muschamp as our defensive coordinator. He may even be the head coach by then if Brown decides to step down because he was named head coach in waiting. Our defense should continue to be one of the best in the nation for years to come if we can keep him. We'll need it against BYU!
I got my season tickets this weekend! Looking forward to the season even though I can't attend all of the games due to travel to Wisconsin and Chicago over the next little while. I'll try to make it to Provo for their game with BYU in several years. I have heard it is beautiful there.

I'm all geared up and excited for this upcoming college football season. I think the BCS NCG would have had a different outcome if Colt would have been able to play the whole game. I enjoy the college games a lot more than the pro games. I got my tickets for when the Miami comes to Columbus, can't wait! GO BUCKS!!

Bryan- Tx has the # 1 class almost EVERY year, so this year is no different. This will be a rebuilding year for BYU. Wash week 1, then at Air force and then at fl st.

They certainly have good classes each year. I think they have averaged around the 9th best class for the last decade or so.
The last #1 class was the 2002 class which won the MNC in 2005. If someone tops the Texas 2011 class it will certainly be an IMPRESSIVE haul. I fully expect the 2011 Texas class to be #1 and perhaps the best class Texas has ever had. Time will tell how things shake out...

Texas is definately one of the best teams and always will be due to the caliber of their high school league's and their recruiting.
I'd still have to argue that the SEC has been the strongest football conference as of recently.
After looking at their schedule and being familiar with the conference, I would venture to say that Alabama is likely to be in the championship this year as well.

The SEC is definitely the best college football conference MOST years. Bama has a great chance to go again this year. Texas will likely slump just a tad with a new quarterback, but their defense will still be really good. Their schedule is pretty tough this year so I don't see them going undefeated.

My 4th post in this thread. If you read back, i referred to a big announcement possibly coming involving this thread. Depended on BYU declating football independence before 9-1-10. It is just breaking on the sports wires.
This is not the big one, but it is falling in line. Espn and Longhorns would be involved. Also not the contarct for home and home TX-Byu series signed. Remember, you heard it first if it happens. Rich

Texas just announced series with Notre Dame and USC too. Bring em' on! I am glad to see good college programs playing even if they end up beating up on my hornz.

UT 2010 schedule
Florida Atlantic, SEVEN home games, TEN in state of TX, and only 1 decent away game (NEB). No wonder TX is considered a good bet for #1.
Of course, so is Ohio State a good bet.
2010 buckeye schedule
EIGHT home games including the "little ten" plus the biggies of Ohio univ, eastern mich, and marshall.

new update- BYU just held news conference about their going independent in football and affiliation with WCC in all other sports. Now-
BYU and ESPN have just signed an EIGHT year contract for ESPN to broadcast EVERY SINGLE home game in BYU football !
BYU and Notre Dame have just signed a SIX game contract in football.
ESPN has agreed to pressure the big schools to play home and home series with BYU and provide the televising and funds.
As I've posted before, there is STILL more to come in this area. As a BYU fan, this is a great day. BYUtv is on dish and direct as well as 500 cable companies around the country and televised into 150 countries around the world. ALL oher sports at BYU will be televised on BYUtv. Great recruiting tool as all families will be able to watch their kids play ALL their games no matter where in the world (150 countries) the player comes from. Huge tool. Rich
