Has anyone delt with an 1880's Victoria style home that has a dirt basement ? I'm looking to do a vapor barrier to reduce any potential moisture, Insects, raydon, just better over all air quality is what I'm going for. Any advice or positive input would be greatly appreciated.
You don't mention water/moisture problems? Make sure down spouts have black pipe (no holes) going 10' from the house. Berm the soil up against the foundation (assuming siding does not come down the touch the soil).
I hvae bought 6ml heavy black plastic role 10' x 100'. and rolled one way over laping with duct tap here abd there. And 90 degrees. This is a big help.
Then I bought a 24x7 dehumidifier that has a pump from Lowes. And ducted the pump output into the AC sump pump to move the condensiate outside. The combo of the 24x7 dehumidifier and black plastic made a zillion percent improvement in the basement. No doubt due to air leakage the upstairs air quality is better now too. But I spent alot of time sealing the duct work as well.
