I recently purchased a sfh with all walls made of concrete. The concrete has many cracks due to foundation issues (and more to come as we repair the foundation). Currently, I believe there is stucco and paint. What is the best way to finish these walls? Is it more cost effective to repair cracks and apply stucco/paint or to place sheet rock over it?
Cliff notes:
-home built in 1940s
-extensive damage to concrete interior walls
-option A: repair cracks and finish with stucco and paint
If the cracks are superficial i would just put up some 1 inch strapping on the walls and sheetrock over it but if they are bigger cracks i would that could potentially create more problems i would fix them for sure.
Once the foundation repairs are made you will have stopped the movement of the foundation and no more cracking should occur. I would drywall over the concrete wall for a nice finish. I’m just not a fan of stucco, but once the foundation is fixed any product is fine.
