Posting the address of your rental property on Craigslist

Posting the address of your rental property on Craigslist

Should I be concerned with posting the full address of my vacant rental property on Craigslist? I see a lot of people on Craiglist only specify street cross-sections. I'm guessing this is for security reasons, but at some point you have to show the property or give the address to a caller who'd like to drive by and see it Although, I guess doing it that way creates more work for a would-be-thief therby making it less likely to be vandalized.

What is your opinion?

I don't post the address and I don't post a sign. However, I give the address to people who phone and request to do a drive-by. I figure that is a bit safer since they know I can trace them though their phone number.

I suppose a thief might call to get an address, but I think that is a lot less likely than having a thief spot the "for rent" sign, or finding an address on Craigslist and knowing the house is empty.

I agree with you. I just got a call tonight from a women that saw the ad on Craigslist and wanted the actual address for a drive-by. My thought process was the same. Most theifs, I think, aren't going to be so bold as to ask for the address and then rob you.

Thanks for the older posts Uwe!

I just saw this thread on a similar discussion and wanted to share that foreign scam operators are posting identical ads and directing the callers to them where they do a collect credit cards for background checks and deposits.

Be very careful when using full addresses. It only helps the scam to make their ads look official and they can tell callers to drive by the property.

    Just FYI -

    shane,

Depends on the neighborhood. I personally like to have the people call our office so we have a chance to bond with them. I usually do not post it. Keep in mind, I do it for list building more than security.
I do have to say, I put an address in the past, and the copper in the home took a walk! LOL!
