I can track the sources of traffic to our website. I have been active on LinkedIn for years now. I am sure I have over 500 connections. I am also well connected on FaceBook and have a company page there as well as a personal page. I just got off of Google checking our pages traffic results and sources to see what is working and, what's not. The results are that we are getting more verifiable traffic from BiggerPocket.com than we get from LI and FB combined, and these visitors are staying on our sight longer. I am not always sure what I am doing here but, I can say without a doubt, it is generating quality traffic for our website!!!

I have not checked in a while, but traffic majority has always been from BP Nation. I have yet to do any deal with anyone from FB or LinkedIn, yet I have done lots with BP members.
It does not take a genius to figure out why I spend about 15 hours per year on those sites and 15 hours per day on BP!

Thanks Joshua Dorkin, I was wondering why it wasn't working before. Love this feature! Makes it so much easier to keep track of multiple threads that I post in.

I have not successfully been able to utilize LinkedIn for either discussion forums or to generate leads as per their promotions section ( it seems the entire discussion board of every group is one big promotion!). However, it has been very useful for my business in obtaining many mortgage broker connections, who have brought me a good mumber of hard money financing deals.
I think LinkedIn fails at trying to be a general business social platform, but performs terrifically at providing a tool for business connections.

Kevin Tunney, not sure if it is something I am doing wrong, but I have clicked on your link three times now and the internet can not find it. Maybe you are just down temporarily, or something is wrong on my end.

That's weird..it works when I click on it. I re-copied and pasted it into my signature now. Try it now Keith Lutz and Joshua Dorkin and let me know if it still doesn't work.

I have done a couple of deals with folks I met on LI but, not nearly as many as I have done with the BP nation and, I have been on LI way longer than BP. I read an article a few months ago that had the title "Linked In or Whacked Out?" I thought it was fitting because 99% of the folks you talk to from LI - are whacked out!!! My time is way better spent right here. FB is great to keep in touch with your friends and family but, not always the best place to talk shop!

I agree with you about Whacked Out! However, I consider LinkedIn a numbers game. I have connections with 1500 mortgage brokers. Once every other month I send them a message letting them know howm much mortgage money we have avaialble and for what type of deals. If one asks me not to sent messages, I deconnect. I usually get 5-10 deals to consider, and usually make 1-2 deals from it.
I have found LI not applicable for advise, expertise, etc, though some half harded attempts are made. But using LI as only for connections, albiet very "thin" connections, opens up new channels for deal flow.

Thanks for sharing your experience Marc. I also see more traffic from Bigger Pockets than many of these other social sites. More importantly it is quality contacts. I have had good traffic from another site, but no actual results.
Sharing on Bigger Pockets is a great way to build your credibility and name recognition. It's also an awesome way to help newbies and share what you have learned. A win-win.
I also happen to believe their is an abundance of opportunities rather than a limit supply. One of the best compliments you can get is when others try to mimic your successes.

Not only does the bulk of my website traffic come from BP, I have met some great people, had some excellent conversations and learned a ton. I came to BP seeking answers to a few real estate investing questions when I was trying to buy my first property...I stayed for the contributions from within the community and the networking.

Priceless might actually be an understatement Will Barnard...some hilarious things were said in that short drive! You just never know what awesome opportunities BP will present.

James Vermillion and Will Barnard - Sounds like I missed out on a h#*l of a time at (and on the way to ) the convention!!! I wish I could have been there but, after 10 yrs. of wedded bliss we are expecting our first and, we were totally besides ourselves at the time:) Now we are just excited about the future and still besides ourselves....
At the rate things are going here-there will be plenty of conventions I hope ah Josh? We plan on setting up baby Morgan with an SDIRA right away and get her going by the time the next one rolls around I hope.
Yep-it's (I mean she, I mean Morgan) a girl. She already owns more shoes than I do and she's not even born yet! We are going to have to teach her how shoes are paid for right away.

Will Barnard c'mon man you are just saying that because you are located a lot closer to Vegas. I vote for Winter in Co and a little skiing competition vs. gambling. Bet Joshua Dorkin kicks all our butts!

While it is closer to me, that is not really the reason. I think it is a much better venue for the second Summit, easy for all to get to, lots to do, numerous venue locations, etc.
Plus, if you look at the stats, the largest showing of attendees as the 1st Summit were from West Coast by far. Besides, Josh is a CA native and we get plenty of snow here in our mountains, so hitting the slopes is not stranger to many of us!

Will Barnard - there is a very slim chance of the next Summit being in Vegas. We can create a new thread to discuss (lets try to keep this one to using BP for traffic), but Vegas just isn't going to happen for many reasons.
BTW - I did live in CA for 7 years, but I'm actually a NY native . . . just making sure you guys know I'm NY to the bone -- Mets Fan, Knicks Fan, etc.
Back to using BP for traffic . . . (key is participation -- pretty simple, actually)

I have never posted like this before (this is my 9th post on BP) and I think it is a testament to this website, its organizers and participants. I hope BP can grow and keep its high quality posts at the same time. This is what has kept me coming back. Good luck !
