Issue with Zillow listing for rental

Issue with Zillow listing for rental

Investor · Phoenix, AZ · Member since 2020 · 5 posts · 6 votes

My realtor listed a rental property and it does not show in general search criteria. However it can only be accessible via direct address.

I also noticed that "map pin" on zillow is showing somewhere else although the address is correct as per "USPS" format. Map pin in county records is also correct.

It is almost impossible to reach out customer service over the phone or live chat support on website. It just shows to either send email or fill in the form. I had sent email to customer support few days ago and no response from them.

Did any one have similar issues ? Any recommendations on how to get this resolved ?

Glad you posted this, Satya! This sounds more like a Zillow geocoding issue than an address-format issue, especially since the USPS address and county map location are correct. Zillow acknowledges that its maps can occasionally place properties differently from county mapping, and a bad pin could explain why the property is accessible by direct address but isn't appearing where you expect in a normal map search. I'd first have your realtor confirm the rental is active in the MLS, syndication to Zillow is enabled, and there aren't any search filters accidentally excluding it. If it has been live for more than 24–48 hours and the pin is still wrong, I'd report the problem directly from the property page using More > Report problem with listing and specifically explain that the address is correct but the geocoded map location is wrong. I'd include screenshots of the Zillow pin versus the county map if the form allows it. I wouldn't keep changing the address to try to fix the pin since that can create another issue with the listing data. If the listing is being fed from the MLS or another syndication service, I'd also have the realtor escalate it through their MLS/broker support since they may be able to troubleshoot the feed from their side.

Most likely, your Realtor didn't enter the property in correctly.  Or the software he uses to feed the various websites didn't propagate it correctly.  The Realtor needs to get in touch with his company's department that handles the software to see if they can get this issue fixed.

The detail that jumps out to me is that the listing does exist on Zillow when you go directly to the address, but the map pin is wrong and it disappears from normal geographic search.

That makes me think this is less likely to be a basic “listing wasn’t submitted” problem and more likely a geocoding or syndication-data problem.

I’d have your Realtor verify three things before doing anything else:

    1. The listing is active at the original source and actually syndicating to Zillow.

    2. The latitude/longitude being sent with the listing matches the property’s real location.

    3. There isn’t an older or duplicate version of the property being fed to Zillow from another source.

That second one matters. A correct USPS address does not necessarily mean the coordinates Zillow is receiving are correct, and a bad set of coordinates would explain both the misplaced pin and why the property isn’t appearing where renters are actually searching on the map.

I’d also avoid deleting/recreating the listing or repeatedly changing the address until the feed is checked. That can create multiple versions of the same property and make the problem harder to untangle.

If the Realtor confirms the source data and coordinates are correct, then I’d escalate it to Zillow specifically as:

“The listing resolves correctly by direct address, but Zillow has geocoded it to the wrong location, causing it to be excluded from map-based rental searches at the property’s actual location.”

Send them screenshots of the Zillow pin, the correct county map location, and the listing ID. That gives support a very specific, reproducible problem instead of a generic “my listing isn’t showing” ticket.

Jimmy is right that this smells like geocoding. I’d just make sure you determine whether the wrong location is entering Zillow through the feed or being created by Zillow after ingestion. That tells you immediately who actually owns the fix.

Would be interested to hear what you find — this is exactly the kind of small data error that can quietly kill a rental listing’s visibility.

Thank You Adam, Jimmy and Michael for responding.

Finally got a response from zillow customer support and they fixed it. Here is the response I got.

I've updated the mapping coordinates for your listing and you can confirm this change with the following link:

This listing isn't linked to the county which is why the coordinates weren't showing up correctly. We were able to verify against Google maps and updated it.
