    If you're just getting started, I'd focus less on finding investors and more on figuring out what type of investor you want to become. The conversations become much more valuable once you have a clear direction.

    The reason I say that is a fix-and-flip investor, a buy-and-hold investor, a multifamily investor, and a developer may all operate in the same market but have completely different strategies, risk profiles, and goals. The fastest way to build useful relationships is to know what you're trying to learn and what type of opportunities you're ultimately looking for.

    Hello, Seidou.

    My name is James I am new to Biggerpockets and I'm based in Newark. I'm also relatively new to the investing side of real estate and currently focusing on vacant lots, distressed properties, and redevelopment opportunities throughout Newark, Orange, East Orange, and Irvington.

    I'm actively building a network of local investors, builders, landlords, and wholesalers in Essex County. I'd be happy to connect and share ideas as we both learn the market.

    What type of investing interests you most, multifamily, fix-and-flips, rentals, land, or wholesaling?
