Hey everyone — Zach here from Texas.

I’ve spent my career in property management accounting and currently work on the controller side of the industry. I also run Sellers Property Finance, which grew out of something I kept seeing repeatedly: there’s a pretty significant gap between having someone doing the bookkeeping and having someone actually owning the financial operation.

That gap tends to show up as companies grow — month-end takes longer, reconciliations become harder to trust, multiple entities and systems start creating complexity, and reporting becomes more important to owners and lenders. At the same time, the company may not be at the point where a full-time controller makes sense.

That part of the business is where I spend most of my time and what I’m particularly interested in: close processes, controls, reconciliations, financial reporting, and generally building an accounting operation that can keep up with the property management operation around it.

I joined BiggerPockets because I’d like to hear more about how operators are handling these problems in the real world, and I figured I could probably contribute something useful when accounting and financial-operations questions come up.
