VRBO Opted In Member Only Discounts

VRBO Opted In Member Only Discounts

By default I was opted into members’ discounts on VRBO which I subsequently had to log in and delete. As if them changing my hero shot to a pic of the outdoor shower wasn’t enough. I guess I need to start reading my emails to ensure I opt out of their meddling in the future. Someone give me a heads up if they are offering a promo where their fee is discounted cause that is one I would welcome.

I’ve already been doing that member discount, but at lower percentages than what they changed you to. So I guess that’s why I didn’t get that email. And yes, it sucks that we have to read everything from them and Airbnb because of the constant changes they force on us.

I have most all their discounts going. It does seem to help get more bookings.

    Still making plenty of money!

The problem is that VRBO stacks all their discounts. So if you had a week long discount combined with an early bird discount and then topped off with a gold tier 20% members only discount you might be doing a 40% discount and losing a ton of revenue.

The VRBO Rep told me that they don't stack the promotions, guest will received the promotion that gives them the highest discount. But they do stack the length of stay discount with a promotion.

I also have all of the promotios running and I think it is helping.

Vrbo gave me a call to encourage adding another promotion and assured me they do not stack promotions. They do stack promotions with a length of stay discount though.

I had my member discount lower than what they suggested and what the Rep told me was if they are not set at the recommended discount you won't get the increased exposure. She said only 3% of members are at Gold status for the 20% off and 85% are at the. Blue status of %12.

My cleaner recently asked me where I was getting my booking because I was the only one turning over at this time, which is normally a slow period.

I am equally getting booking through VRBO, Airbnb and Direct through local websites. I do have last minute discounts set on both Airbnb and Vrbo and I think that has definitely helped.

What percentage of your overall reservation increase do you attribute to this particular discount program?

Of the 12 reservations received on VRBO (4 properties) since I started the Member discount in July, 3 include a member discount at 15% (Silver), 2 of those also included a 10% weekly discount,

2 were last minute discounts 10%( no additinal discount),

      2 mobile discounts(no additional discount)

2 weekly discounts 10%(no additional discount)

1 monthly discount 20% (no additonal discount)

-so 3 member discounts a 15% (silver) does not reflect for me of what the Rep said, as far as 85% members being Blue @ 10%

Thanks! I do a substantial 3 week and monthly + discount on all sites and would prefer to avoid stacking but will take a second look. The last minute discounts seem counter intuitive to me but again I'm just not interested in heads in the beds for a low net. Both as host and guest if anything I would expect prices to be higher as the date approaches and competing places are reserved.

Even when you have the option if you go against the grain you are often punished with less visibility.

For sure and guarantee I’m not on VRBOs short list of star pupils. If they find it offensive that I find it offensive that they want to reach into my wallet uninvited so be it.

ou’re definitely right. But a lot of hosts are actually making passive income now by signing up for tools that let local vendors offer services to their guests for a high commission. There are free and paid options out there, but it’s a great way to bring in extra revenue so those forced discounts don't sting as much.

The outdoor shower getting promoted to the cover photo made me laugh. But yeah, a discount I choose and one I discover later are two very different things. Especially when you're already giving a big break on longer stays.
