Retirees are doing odd jobs like boxing at Costco or driving a shuttle to the airport to make up that extra $1000 income gap.

What's interesting is that every resupply mission or manned mission to the ISS, since the space shuttle was retired, has been via a Russian rocket.  

If you search for "google shuttles in San Francisco" a map of where the shuttles are comes up.

But if you are some thankless middle income desk jockey, who just wanted to move up from 1600 square feet to 4600 square feet and have a boat, and have two cars in the driveway the size of the space shuttle, and if the loan screws up well, se la vi!

If they cant help, pay for a shuttle.

When looking for real estate investments in the suburbs or rural areas, look for neighborhoods that have easy access to freeways and bridges or offer commuter shuttles to nearby bigger job markets.

A ski shuttle stop is right out front, it's walking distance to town, and it has great views.

With that said I will admit it's definitely difficult (not an easy thing to do by any means) and I definitely do a lot of email/texting on the go (sitting on the shuttle for work or during my meal breaks) and making early or late night calls if need be. 

Many of the ski areas offer mountain biking where you ride the lift up and ride (or maybe fall) down.There are shuttles from DIA up to some mountain towns.
