Also ground zero for this is Riverside and San Bernidino counties in CA. there are over 2 million undeveloped platted lots. thousands are bought and sold at tax sale yearly. there was a company I think they are still around ..

@Karl Krentzel your showing your age... the fact is glenn garry glen ross is exactly how the land game was played in the 50's and 60's  I know I personally lived it as a kid.. think of the millions of lots in Florida CA.

Love you, Lee, but I disagree with all Riverside being a B-/C+.

Even from LA County to Riverside County, my family friend had found out herself that her property management had leased a single family home to a family that later ballooned up to 11 people living in a 3 bedroom house.

In Riverside/Avondale there are a number of properties on the market for closer to 100k per door. 

by 92 I had it somewhat down.. my dad was in the land game.. think Glen Gary Glen Ross I was raised in it.. 

If it is in a highly desirable STR area (the beaches, Riverside etc) it may be beneficial to sell it furnished.
