And in some cases, e.g. the laundry room, can't tell if the detergent has been refilled, just that it's clean- but to cover floors, etc.?

Also RE has some marginal tax benefitsIm not disagreeing with you though, if someone has 500k cash today and they wont use debt they are most likely better off long term in the market vs owning an STR I've struggled with this because while it isn't apples to apples there is a beauty to VTSAX set it and forget it as opposed to having to hand deliver laundry detergent to STR because the previous guest took all the laundry pods and current guest can't make it a mile up the street to purchase their own detergent lol.

But when I go to my STR after the cleaners have left, I don't smell any scent, so that's good.I do leave both regular laundry detergent and dryer sheets, and unscented of both for guests.

Basic stuff I've restocked:shampoo, conditioner, soap, paper towels, toilet paper, 1 frying pan, 1 medium size pot, silverware, knife large wooden spoon, dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent, olive oil, salt, and pepper.Some pro tips: I always do this shopping at Costco and buy quality items at bulk and a bit cheaper.
