I have lots of mold in my attic because the attic wasn't ventilated correctly. I have corrected the ventilation problem (got a new roof) and was wondering the best way to remove the mold. Should I do it myself, if so what is the best way to remove mold? I need it to be done right because my 3 year old has asthma so I need to make sure the mold is gone and will not spread. I appreciate any suggestions.
As a do it yourself to be 100% safe with your own child,,,I dont know. probably worth the cost of hiring or at least talking to mold specialists.
I did see a TV show that was media blasting using dry ice,,seemed to work well,,,as they all do on TV!!! Sort of hard in a attic given insulation and cramped spaces. Think they had all drywall down and insulation removed.
If I remember right they had poly catching the dry ice and it evaporated right there.
My concern is what does the back side of the ceiling drywall look like??? Sounds like quite a mess to me,,,and potentially expensive.
I would hire a professional who gives you a transferable warranty on it. If you were to sell your property, you would have to disclose it and you are going to have to show them you fixed it and it has a warranty. Saying you did it yourself will not hold much water when it comes to mold.
In addition, you and your son would feel better knowing a professional took care of it. Just my IMO.
My opinion is that most mold issues are greatly overcomplicated. I am not a qualified expert in the matter but a 50/50 bleach solution will KILL most mold and adequate ventilation to keep things dry will keep it from coming back. If you need warranties and guarantees it will be expensive.
I never tell or disclose to anyone that I have mold. Clean it yourself. Nobody else will ever be able to do a better job than you. After it's clean and dry, I spray the same stuff I put in my pool to stop algie. It's like liquid copper. It hasn't come back yet. Nothing grows on copper. Keep it clean and dry and you should be fine
