What are private notes and is there a way to message people?

How do I privately message someone on this site and what is a private note?  Is that a private message or is that just something you save for memory purposes?

Hey @Robert Marsh. The Private Notes appear when you are looking at another member's profile. They exist for you to make notes regarding that person - "This guy has great rates!" or "This agent helped me so much!"

Nobody but you can see those notes.

BiggerPockets does have a private message system, but you can only send private messages to Colleagues. If you are already colleagues with the person you wish to message, go to their profile and click Send a Message in the upper right corner.

Advertising is not allowed in the regular forums, but information definitely is. If you see a question that you can answer without advertising yourself, your company or your services, please answer. Your occupation is currently "Lender" so if you answer a lending question, people see you have given advice and if it's good, they may contact you about your services.

Signing up for Pro will give you a signature that can display a lot of your information, including contact information or clickable links to your web site. You can also advertise in the Marketplace Forum, the only place on the site where advertising is allowed.

@Derrick Moore you can help them out in the open forum, and if they choose to add you as a colleague you can send them a private message. I am not sure but I think BP might have limited the messaging because of the minority of individuals who think sending a sales pitch is "Help" :)

@Mindy Jensen, Hi I get the part when looking at another members profile for PM. But the notes that  say this guy has great rates, AB; or this agent CD help me so much! So you can refer  people to an mortgage broker or real estate agent by mentioning them? My question here is,  I'm an agent and I see i might be able to help people or  advise, I can't reach out to them?  But what if I can help them but how, without getting penalized. Do I reply by mentioning the steps that will help them or sign up for pro and my contact info is displayed and they will contact me.

please advice.
