How is the Covid-19 affecting everyone’s business?

Last night Baltimore City has stayed all evictions for as long as school is suspended. We will have 2 evictions stayed. One of them a professional tenant who we have been trying to get out for almost a year.

As the economy begins to be affected by this I anticipate some tenants to have reduced hours/layoffs and will struggle to pay the rents.

I think this entire country needs to shut there damn TV's off. We are creating this financial epidemic. It's going to be over soon enough. Worse case I'm going to be buying in a year at a discounted rate.

My son manages a local pharmacy & after a couple of returning world travelers here proved positive for Covid-19 the masses began stripping the shelves of the store of everything. It's insane. Sales revenues for these stores will spike exponentially. Even all the onions & garlic have been sold out. It's a VIRUS we're fighting not Vampires.

We don't have any vacancies but we still have people looking at our semi-rural area for peace & quiet & a 2bedroom upper unit nearby just went on the mkt for $1100/month.

It hasn't hit MO hard yet. Once they start closing schools we'll be heading towards trouble I think.

My concern is these muppets that decide they are perfectly okay to fly with symptoms, or leave voluntary isolation to go to their kid's school dance.

Another concern is, there is not a cure.

We had a few evictions stayed because the tenants broke things and called the city. If there are any pending violations it stays the eviction. This happened three times. We had a judge overturn another judges eviction order. Tenant refused us entry once so we couldn't do the repairs. Another time we showed up at the scheduled time to perform repairs and tenant called the police and had me escorted from the property. It's been quite a mess. Tenant has been running a car wash out of the house. Water bill is a couple of thousand dollars. The courts and inspectors in Baltimore City are very biased towards the tenants.

There is no protections or remedies for landlords in Balt City.

It will be on a case by case basis determined by their pay history and communication with us. Depending on who they are and what they can do we will find work for them to do to help offset the rent.

BALTIMORE, MD. — Beginning immediately, evictions in Baltimore City are halted while schools are closed due to the growing COVID-19 virus.

Earlier today, Mayor Young reached out to Baltimore City Sheriff John W. Anderson to request his office, which has jurisdiction over evictions, stop the practice during the period when public schools are closed in Baltimore.

Governor Hogan announced today that public schools throughout the state will close for two weeks beginning Monday.

"I am thankful to Sheriff Anderson and District Administrative Judge Barbara B. Waxman for working quickly with my office to put in place a policy to allow people to remain in their homes while schools and many other government buildings are closed due to COVID-19," Mayor Young said.

"Housing is a core aspect of the social determinants of health that impacts the health, safety, and well-being of all of our residents," Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Letitia Dzirasa said. "I commend Mayor Young, Sheriff Anderson, and Judge Waxman for their actions in limiting evictions at this critical time."
