ADU Owner Builder

Hi, I recently have gotten approval for my plans to build an ADU I the city of Glendora in California. My contractor who is not licensed as a GC suggested for me to use Onwer-Builder's Declaration instead of a Contractor Builder Declaration. This contractor has a lot of experience and I've actually seen his work before. Am I putting myself in any risk with going the Owner Builder route and is this a bad idea?
