The Jordan Belfort way of sales DOES NOT WORK today
I called a junk removal company this week and they had a model where they show up to give a price estimate. Which is very slow and not good today. Most people want upfront pricing. I decided to see their sales process anyway. I considered it "market research."
They show up, spend 5 minutes looking at the junk I wanted them to take then they showed me their pricing sheet. The pricing was outrageous. Wanting $348 for 1/4 bed of junk is something I didn't want to do. Especially, knowing there was a local company wanting to do it for $149 and they were disposing the e-waste.
I told them point blank, "No that's out of my budget. I simply DON'T want to spend that amount."
They did the "let me talk to my manager" strategy. Which is completely dead today. That doesn't work at all. Not in real estate, not in junk removal. So I wanted to have fun and said, "Oh please do, I can use they help."
They got all excited. Spent 20 MINUTES somehow on the phone to come back and say, "Okay we can give you $50 off".
Think about how they drove to my house, spent gas money, were a local franchise, had two employees on payroll, and wasted an hour just yapping with me to get a sale when I said again, "Nope, I only have $150 I care to spend. Thanks gentlemen."
The Jordan Belfort way of sales is absolutely dead. Any sales trainer or manager telling you to do these dumb tactics are probably making less money than you in application. I've had sales manager do all kinds of weird stuff with scripts and tactics that avoid the main topic of discussion, THE MONEY.
So they other main point I'd like to say is be upfront with people back. Tell them the truth if you have money or not. Stop saying you need to think about it, talk with your partner, consider it, look if you don't have the money just say you don't have the money, and if the sales rep still pressures you just hang up on them. lol
cheers!
