Do you know their user name?  I just type in a name into the search bar at top right near the "notifications" bell.

Hi @Jay Hinrichs!  Evan's got it right--go to the AI search next to the notifications bell and revert to "classic search" to search for specific member quickly.  We're in the middle of a MASSIVE and amazing upgrade to the forums (including making it super easy to find members)...but for today, that's the easiest way.

If "search" worked better, maybe users could find the right forum or forum topic?

Some users turn off the ability to be found through search in settings. That could be the case here.
