Hi Bigger Pockets Community:
I recently bought a property under a contract for deed.
The property needs some work and I am needing pull a building permit.
When I went to get a permit to start rehab, the city employee told me since this is a contract for deed and does not match the county database, I will have to have the person I am purchasing the property from pull the permit.
This makes no sense to me and has anyone else ran into this problem before?
Makes sense, typically the Owner has to sign the permit....you don’t hold title yet. Your seller shouldn’t have any objection.
I just went through this for a Builder’s Permit. We had the title company send us a letter stating they had already processed the paperwork and the deed was being transferred to our LLC’s name.
I talked to the city attorney and he said a letter would sufice
