Hi BP fam! I am looking to purchase an STR in Myrtle Beach, SC, however, I am having trouble locating the actual map of where these types of properties are allowed. Anyone familiar with this area? The zoning code link provided at https://www.cityofmyrtlebeach.... does not work for me.
Also, I am looking in VA Beach, and there are tons of condos...however, it seems that a lot of these HOA's are not allowing for less than 30 day leases. Anyone familiar with condos that do allow for STRs, or have any tips on how to better locate these types of properties? I am finding some nice properties, but falling when it comes to the HOA not allowing it, or just not able to get ahold of the HOA in general.
@German Hall. Good luck!! May you find success and joy in your journey. In my limited experience of condos in VB, there are a lot of restrictions. Let's connect via message, I have someone who would have a better answer for you in regards to which condos allow for that. I am sure you know already, but Virginia Beach is also very strict on where STR's can happen in the Oceanfront area. Here is a map that shows where STRs are approved in the OR district: https://www.vbgov.com/governme... and here is the actual ordinance: https://library.municode.com/v...
@Sean Rooks - Thank you. I was working with the Overlay Map and it is a hassle. Will pass on this area for now.
@Carter Fleck - Appreciate it man. I was working with an agent in that area, and seems like a problematic area to be in, and for my first one, I will try to steer clear of those areas until i have more experience!
@Michael Weigum - appreciate your response! I'll definitely message you here to find out about your experience.
@German Hall - you find that PDF? You will want to make sure you cross-reference it with the Code of Ordinances. Anything single family within the City of Myrtle Beach you will pretty much be limited. City of North Myrtle Beach and City of Surfside Beach for single-family is where you will want to be looking for single families. Condos are a pretty sure bet up and down each municipality.
Not sure if you are still looking, but I am in the process of looking for a STR in Myrtle. I came across a zoning map https://www.arcgis.com/apps/we... Would love to connect and hear how your journey is going.

I actually just closed on a unit in North Myrtle Beach. My realtor there had set me up on a drip campaign for every where that allows STR in Myrtle/North Myrtle. I’m in search for a contractor now to get down a piece of dry wall. Everyone is busy so it seems like that’s going to be taking some time. Let me know if you need a referral or anything in that area.
