Ground contruction and launch of our STR in Joshua Tree

We finally finished the ground up construction of our Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley STR!

We designed and built a 2,244sq' 4 Bed/4 Bath with Pool, spa & game room in the middle of amazing boulders and surrounded by Joshua Trees.

We launched it on 10/5 and are so happy to report that we have our first booking this weekend 10/8 & 10/9!

Stunning! Very nicely done. Love the setting, very similar geology to that first trail on the north end of JT that it seems they based the movie "Cars" off of.

Hi Lee!

First off, congrats on getting your AirBnB listed and booked! The home looks amazing - the view, interior design all of it.
I'm really curious to know what your cost was on purchasing the land, construction, etc. if you don't mind sharing!

Hey Lee,
Thinking of getting a STR place in the desert wanted to know what % of monthly gross rent you should figure for electric / heat and water bill. BTW your place looks amazing great job...

Hi Andrew,
It really depends (I know :D Not the answer you are looking for)
The size of house, how many and what type HVAC unit (s) you will have, would you have a pool, spa, bbq, EV charger. Will you mostly be all electric or what would be the ratio of LP vs Electric. Solar panels ? what size.
So there are so many variable that unfortunately I can not give you a precise answer.
When I finish the youtube breakdown video, I'll try to provide the requested info based on the house I built. And btw, for now I do not know as everything is new and I don't yet have enough data.

Looks great! I'm starting my STR build in the spring. Just curious if there is anything specific you did for this build knowing it was going to be an STR that someone would not typically do for their primary residence?

Hi Lyle,
I wanted to design something appealing design wise and also to stand out from traditional type homes. But wanting this house to function perfectly and be desirable as a single family home if need be.

That being said, I designed it in such a way that all 4 bedrooms have an amazing view, yet complete privacy as they can't look at the other bedrooms and have the feeling of being alone in the desert surrounded by Joshua trees.
Every bedroom has it's own bathroom and direct access to the pool, spa and trails directly though the large sliders located in each room.
I have a large kitchen, living, dining space in the middle of he house so everyone can get together to enjoy the view, pool and outdoors.
Of course, a game/yoga room and activities are always a big plus.
I hope this somewhat answers your question.

I know exactly exactly where this property is. Nice job with the build and the marketing photos! Congrats on your first booking!! Jenn is one of the best PMs in the area. I haven't worked with her directly but I only hear good things about her company.

Curious, how long will it take to payoff your out of pocket on the build? I see a lot of crazy high end Joshua Tree Air Bnb's and figure it must cost a fortune to get materials and workers out there. Not to mention, where are the utilities coming from?!

The place looks great, nice job! One thing I noticed however is that your thread title and link say Joshua Tree but the property is in Yucca Valley. Yucca is not Joshua Tree which I'm sure you know of course. Sure they're really close together but also quite different in a lot of ways, so you may want to be a little more specific with your wording. Having lived in JT for awhile, locals there definitely do not consider JT and Yucca to be the same thing. Each town has their pros and cons, some similarities between them due to being close to each other, but also major differences. Kind of like advertising a Brooklyn or Bronx property as a Manhattan property: might seem indistinguishable to outsiders, they're both in NYC after all, not far away on a map, but definitely not the same. Some people may be upset or leave a negative review if you are claiming a property with a Yucca Valley address is in Joshua Tree.
