I heard of interior design companies doing design work and often they have contacts for furniture and appliances.  Maybe contact interior design companies to be a source for them.
Or start an interior design company.

    +1 for design and use that as an outlet to sell furniture. Specialize in durable/commercial items perfect for STR use.

    How would yall advise on marketing myself when starting out? The only experience I have is furnishing my first property

      @David Choi BP is one of the best spots for that! :) Start an Instagram account as well. Connect with investors here and real estate agents focused on STRs and offer a referral incentive. If you have extra cash worth trying thumbtack and listing your info there so that folks can reach out in your area :)

    Offer quick design services, complete with links to each item and 2D/3D mockup renderings of each room. If you can find a way to automate this and scale you can make a significant amount of money

    So people go to school for interior design. My son has a minor in interior design to go with his architecture degree and construction management minor.

    What you are saying is that you are ready to design someones property. Is that in your wheelhouse after furnishing your first property?

    I did ours and I don't feel up to the task of designing someone else's and getting paid to do it.

    Are you going to get a big warehouse and fill it up with many different types of furnishings for every kind of style? 

    I guess you need to drill down a bit and figure out how much you are going to offer and the time it will take. Any of the things I mentioned are full time gigs, not a side hustle.

    Maybe you are going to organize their deliveries and manage/do setup for new owners? Even that is a full time job IMHO.

       I think I would want to start with small with mid term rentals, since these are usually furnished with more basic features and aesthetic and design are not paramount. I also have a wholesaler who sources furniture and other items (new) for very cheap, usually at a 50% discount from retail. I used him to furnish my first property. And then I would try grow from there

    Great idea! There is a company - Ogle Furniture - in Sevierville TN, that is almost exclusively for short term rentals. I have used them a lot over the years.

    Hi David. I've furnished over 10 STRs in the metro Atlanta area, and I totally get where you're coming from. Ask yourself if you would be comfortable designing & furnishing someone else's place. It requires a lot of attention to detail and organizational skills. For furniture, you can use group purchasing platforms specifically for STR Hosts to buy functional yet stylish items for a huge discount. I'm happy to send those over to you. Marketing-wise, I'd recommend showcasing before/after photos on Instagram and networking with local STR owners and agents - word of mouth goes a long way. All the best!
