Detached Greenhouse as an Airbnb Amenity
Has anyone here built a detached four-season greenhouse or conservatory as an amenity for an Airbnb or short-term rental?
I’m considering adding one to a property in the Poconos—probably around 240–300 square feet—for guests to lounge, relax, and enjoy year-round. I’ve always loved greenhouse and conservatory spaces, and this seems like it could be a really special feature if it’s designed and managed well.
I’d especially love to hear from anyone who has actually built or operated something similar. I’m trying to get a realistic sense of what works, what doesn’t, and what I should think through before moving forward:
• Did you work with a greenhouse company, general contractor, architect, or some combination?
• What type of structure and glazing did you use?
• How do you manage summer heat, winter heating, ventilation, humidity, and automation without needing to be there every day?
• How has the space held up with guests or regular use?
• Is there anything you would do differently if you were building it again?
• Are there any builders, greenhouse companies, engineers, or contractors you would recommend?
I'd also be happy to hear from anyone who built one for personal use, even if it isn't connected to an STR. Practical lessons, photos, vendor recommendations, and hard-earned advice would all be greatly appreciated.
Would love to connect with anyone who has gone down this road.
