Is it just me or are STR guests wose than usually lately?

I suppose it’s worth it with prices almost double lately.

Anyone else getting hammered with entitled jerks?

Lots of people trying to have kickbacks and parties over here. I think the combo of being couped up for a year and having free gov money has broken people's brains.

we have had TONS of wedding booking requests. "OH just the 3 of us" turns into "only 3 of us will be sleeping there but 12 of us want to get our Make up done and our 8 kids will be there too" in our 2 bed 1 bath.

It's a minefield out there right now.

I keep getting asked over and over about the same things. Uber, food delivery, Amazon delivery, etc. It started and just doesn’t seem to have ended.

Just had a guest rate 5 in all categories but 4 overall and she raved on and on about how they can’t wait to come back. I asked her what was up and she said she “doesn’t ever give anyone five stars for anything.”  So dumb. She’s not welcome back.

Yea my cleaner said she is seeing a rash of this.  A few weeks ago we had someone stay in a 2 bedroom pool cabin we have.  Airbnb said 6 guests - this place sleeps 6.  We also have everyone sign an online rental agreement in which they list the names of all parties that will be staying.  They listed 5 there.  It was a 2 night booking.  2 adults and 8 kids showed up.  I considered dealing with it right then, but figured I would ride it out as most of the time things usually work out ok.  We warned my cleaners that there were 10 people in that cabin to prepare them.  Yep it was trashed.  It was the worst I have seen yet.  They didn't follow any of the check out rules.  Left the place a wreck.  It was actually disgusting.  Didn't even try to hide it.   The toilet in the pool room was left full and not flushed.  Then on top of all the garbage in the garbage can next to the toilet was one of our towels in which someone wiped their backside with it and left it sit there.  Food was everywhere, pots and pans just coated with burnt stuff.. My cleaners pulled out 13 bags of garbage as the guest didn't take it out themselves or even bother collecting it.  The hot tub looked like someone had diarrhea in it.  It was awful.

My cleaner said she is seeing this a lot more.  Folks that all of the sudden became stimulus rich and decided to spend it on vacation but these people don't know how to act.  Fortunately this doesn't happen too often.

Here in Orlando/Kissimmee we’ve seen the same with the “new rich” thanks to stimulus. But at the same time we’ve done a few things to avoid issues:

- we have cameras on all of our properties

- we remind guests when they book and before check-in that we have zero tolerance for parties and guests that are not informed

- signs all over the properties with the rules and how to use things

- we know the neighbors and they call us asap if there is an issue

Back in 3Q’20 it was worse and the rates were very low.

We thought about installing the Minut noise detector, but haven’t need it so far. Haven’t had issues with reviews either. Guests are a bit messier than in the past, but we are charging around 25-50% higher rates than usual, so just call it cost of doing business.

I have had a higher number of folks booking then cancelling a few days later.  It is odd, like they cannot make up their mind about going on vacation.  I have also had a large number of calls or texts like do you have a covered casserole dish, tin foil, plastic saran wrap, virgin olive oil, a colander, etc.

I have also had my regular great clients that are so nice and friendly like they are all old friends.

Same story with my STRs.  Nothing has changed in the last 8 years as far as guest.  There were 2 homicides in this town of 9500 in the last 6 days though.
